ABSTRACT— With the return to multi-party politics in the early 1990’s, the issue of the representation of women and their participation in the political process has become increasingly relevant in Cameroon. It has attracted increasing interest from social scientists due to the fact that a key test of modernization is supposed to be the position of women in relation to the rhetoric that constructing an image of strong protective masculinity for political leaders, or holder of important decisions making positions.

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we make an attempt to enquire into the politics of state-business

relations, how it has affected industrial development in general, and expansion of the

manufacturing sector in the State of Andhra Pradesh (AP) in particular. In AP, SBRs

have evolved gradually under different political regimes - from 'indifferent' SBRs

during the initial decades passing through critical junctures in the form of 'active' and

Claude Levi-Strauss has long been interested in the role of reciprocity, in the form of social exchange, in creating and maintaining bonds of affiliation in human societies (see, of course, Levi-Strauss 1969). In “The Bear and the Barber” he compares and contrasts two structural types usually assumed to be profoundly different from each other. The structural type denoted by the word “bear” in the title of the paper is labelled “totemic”: he considers it characteristic of classic Australian aboriginal groups, among others.

Identity politics has become the hallmark of our times and emphasizing cultural identities does have some advantages in multicultural societies. However, it also encourages us to generalize about groups. The terrible effects of painting an entire community with one brush are to be seen in many ways. One instance is that of a teenaged girl who commited suicide in Bhopal some weeks ago. It was chance that she was born into the Pardhi community.

‘Justice’ and ‘Social Justice’ belong to that category of words which people use frequently and variedly. They have a vague sense of what they are talking about. But when asked to consciously define these words, they fail to articulate properly. ‘Nation’ and ‘luck’ are other such words. So how is a concept like Justice to be understood? Is the understanding similar for all people or is it fundamentally different? Is it constant or does it change with the context, region and time?

Justice in an organization is that which the employees perceive as being fair, with respect to, workplace procedures, interactions and results or payoffs. Well planned structures, policies and processes in an organization promote fair and equal treatment which is associated with employee well-being and prosperity. Therefore justice or the lack of it in an organisation is an instance of a nature of a society. The military is one of the largest organizations which has both social and political implications in terms of justice.

There has been a constant question on my mind as to whether music has the power to change society or is it simply that change in society influences music.Either way, it is quite safe to say that music is one of the most powerful mediums of expression that can truly transform thoughts and change attitudes. The realisation and the fear of what music can actually do to a society is what causes so many musical works to be banned and censored. However, there seems to be lesser music that is being prohibited these days, not due to acceptance or freedom of expression but due to the

Though, since its origin, the human rights movement (HRM) in India

has made significant interventions in the shaping of democratic politics,

there has been, rather surprisingly, no serious reflection on the various

shifts that it has gone through and the emerging trends, phases and discourses

within it. In fact, a pertinent question, given the various new

shifts, is: is there a single HRM at all in India today? Or, instead, are

Perhaps everyone has been asked at least once in life what his/her nationality is.In all formal forms, the answer is expected to be the name of one’s country. But according to the definition of ‘nation’ and living in a world of multinational countries, we can say that the answer to this question will quite likely be incorrect, especially when involving nations that their nationalities are in reality different from their citizenship and are not related to those countries where they are included.

Thanks to S. Balakrishnan for sending this web link.  It will be very useful for those interested in Polybius and all things Greek.  Please have a look.

Among those are the sections of Polybius's sixth book in which he analysed the basic structure of the Roman political system and so, he believed, the secrets of its success. Rome thrived, he boldly argued, because it was a perfect “mixed constitution”, that is, part monarchy (in its consuls), part aristocracy (in the Senate), part democracy (in the popular assemblies).
